 Special Festival Events

THE 13TH ANNUAL CHOPTANK “RIVAH”RUN
Departing from Martinak State Park off Deep Shore Road in Denton

/A fun, two-mile paddling event for children and adults of all ages (children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult). Any type of paddle craft is eligible for the “poker run.” Each paddler stops at a series of checkpoints staffed by the Coast Guard Auxiliary #44 and the Choptank River Yacht Club flotilla where they will receive a playing card and at the finish, the best five-card poker hand wins the top prize, a Vapor 10 Kayak. Local businesses have contributed over 20 other prizes for distribution to the other winning poker hands.

Pre-registration cost is $10.00 per person and includes a t-shirt for everyone registered by July 30 compliments of Impressive Printing in Hillsboro. A limited supply of canoes are available for rent. Registration is recommended in advance. Fee the day of the event is $15.00 per person.  Click here for 2010 registration form.

Hop on board for a fun ride on a genuine fire truck. Presented by the Denton Volunteer Fire Department.

The kids can get their creative juices flowing at this FREE arts and crafts event.  Kids and the "kids at heart" can create jewelry, masks, sculpture and more in this make-and-take tradition.  It's a great place to get into the shade and out of the crowd for arts table fun.  Sponsored by Provident State Bank.

BOX TOWN USA!
Courthouse Green at 2nd and Gay Streets
Remember the mystery and fun of giant appliance boxes?  Kids can make forts, houses, whatever they can imagine in this city of boxes for creative play and decoration.  Boxes free for adoption at the end of the festival.  See festival volunteer on site for more information.  Presented by George, Miles, and Buhr, Inc.

SCALES & TALES
Around the Courthouse Green
The Maryland Park Foundation program allows you to get up close and personal with the Shore's most majestic and remarkable ordinary but beautiful creatures.  Families will learn more about hawks, owls, snakes, and turtles in this interactive wildlife display.  Presented by Charles Huber and State Farm Insurance.
